Ablation
New Solution for Heavy Periods
- Are you afraid to leave home on the first day?
- Does your period cause fatigue or dizziness?
- Does your period last longer than 6-7 days?
- Has medication failed to control your menstrual bleeding?
- Are you tired of stains on underwear and sheets?
If you answered "YES" to any of these questions there is a convenient, office procedure at Center for Women's Health that can help: endometrial ablation.
Clinical studies confirm that 98% of patients are satisfied with the results.
How It's Performed
Endometrial ablation takes place in the office under local anesthesia by our physicians. After local anesthesia, a lighted tube is gently inserted through the cervical opening to inspect the lining of the uterus. Tissue biopsies may be taken at this time. A sterile applicator is then placed into the uterine cavity. The tip of the applicator releases microwave energy to treat the glandular lining of the uterus for 3-4 minutes. The procedure feels like a crampy period. You can leave the Center 15-30 minutes after the procedure.
Advantages
- Low risk office procedure under local anesthesia
- Minimal cramping with procedure
- Effectiveness:
- ~ 87% of patients report bleeding reduced to at least normal levels
- ~ 55% of patients experienced no bleeding
- No down-time, return to normal activities the next day
- Covered by most insurance
- Non-hormonal treatment for heavy periods
- Alternative to hysterectomy
- Often less expensive than in-hospital procedures
Endometrial ablation could be the solution to your prolonged, heavy and/or irregular periods. Your physician must first rule out other possible causes of heavy periods that can't be cured by endometrial ablation. This may involve a pap smear, ultrasound and/or uterine biopsy. If you still want to have children, endometrial ablation is not an option. Please contact us for a consultation appointment.
