Diagnostic of Heavy Bleeding

Steps to diagnose the cause of heavy bleeding include:
  • Pelvic exam to detect cervical problems including infections
  • Ultrasound to see the structure of the wall of the uterus and measure the glandular lining's thickness
  • Endometrial biopsy-place a tiny suction tube in through the cervix and biopsy the glandular lining
  • Hormonal testing to look for hormonal imbalances including polycystic ovary disease, thyroid problems
  • Other testing may include blood clotting tests
